If you are creating impact as a founder and leader or are a corporate catalyst interested in joining a board, look no further than AFROTECH’s Board Readiness Summit.

From 10 a.m. ET to noon ET on March 25, 2025, this virtual event will deliver exclusive insights and strategies to empower you with the tools and confidence to secure a board seat. Landing a post whether for a nonprofit, which is often a good starting point, or for-profit, will require experience and skills such as strategic planning and development, leadership, collaboration and more, Forbes notes.

Learn From Nancy Twine

To position you for success, discussions will be led by industry leaders, starting with former Goldman Sachs VP Nancy Twine, who launched Briogeo Hair Care in 2013 and turned it into a $100 million business within nearly a decade, according to Forbes. She also made history as the youngest Black woman to launch products at Sephora. The brand went on to land placement at Ulta Beauty. What’s more, Twine is an advisor for both companies.

In 2022, Wella Company acquired Briogeo Hair Care, marking its first portfolio expansion, a news release notes.

Twine has also secured more than $20 million in private equity and is paying it forward through the Dream Makers Founder Grant, a $1 million commitment to empower women-owned businesses.

She currently serves as a board member of Room to Grow and Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW), having previously held a board seat at Vera Bradley. During the summit, Twine will share her insights on what to consider to determine if board leadership should be your next career move, the differences between for-profit and nonprofit boards, and the best strategies to land your first seat.

Learn From James D. White

Next in the lineup is former Jamba Juice Chair, President, and CEO James D. White, whose career trajectory also includes senior roles at Safeway, The Gillette Co., and Nestlé-Purina PetCare. White serves as a board member with several companies including CAVA, Greenlight, Chief Executives for Corporate Purpose (CECP), The Simply Good Foods Co., and The Bay Club Co. He is also the chair of the board at The Honest Co. and the Directors Academy.

For the past five years, White has been collaborating with CEOs, executive teams, chief human resources officers, and boards to build with purpose, advising on corporate culture and on diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies.

At the Board Readiness Summit, expect White to share his perspective on how to determine if board membership aligns with your goals, the expectations and responsibilities to anticipate, and how to make board service a sustainable career path.
