Former NBA player Nick Young is speaking out about his alleged experiences as a member of Ice Cube’s BIG3 league, VIBE reports. As previously reported by AfroTech, the league officially became certified as the first professional Black-owned sports league. The 3-on-3 league first debuted in 2017, thanks to Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz. Over the years, it has incorporated technology to enhance the experience between both fans and their adored players.
Snoop Dogg has purchased a minority stake in Bivouac, a team a part of Ice Cube’s BIG3 basketball league. According to a press release, Snoop Dogg joined venture capitalist and co-founder of PayPal Ken Howery to buy 25 Fire-Tier editions of Bivouac. A team from Ice Cube’s BIG3 basketball league has been purchased by DeGods DAO for $625,000, according to a press release. As AfroTech previously reported, Ice’s Cube’s basketball ventures in the metaverse allow collectors to become team owners under the conditions they purchase between two NFT collectibles: 25 Fire valued at $25,000 each and 975 Gold valued at $5,000 each. Solana backed platform DeGods has dived right in to build on the BIG3 league’s mission to make fans more involved with their favorite team with plans to make 500 whitelist spots ready for potential holders, Forbes India reports.
All hands on deck! Ice Cube has announced big plans for his basketball league. According to a press release, the rapper turned entrepreneur’s BIG3 basketball league plans to introduce decentralized team ownership backed by Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). This means fans from across the world will have a chance to own a stake in the league’s 12 teams. “This is team ownership in the 21st century,” said BIG3 co-founder, Ice Cube, according to a press release. “We’ve created a special bond with our fans since our first game in 2017 and this is the natural next step. We want fans to feel even more invested in their favorite squad, more connected to their favorite player, and provide them with the opportunity to grow with us. While other leagues are flirting with fan ownership, none of them have more meat on the bone than BIG3 team owners.”
Triller is on a mission to add more sports content to its video network platform — starting with rapper Ice Cube and his Big3 basketball league. According to CNBC, Cube inked an agreement for a joint venture with the social media company in which Triller will host his league’s first all-star game, its draft, and also feature 30 hours of live games from its 2021 season.
