Gillie Da Kid and Wallo helped squash a longtime beef between Cam’ron and Mase, leading to a major financial win.
Cam’ron and Mase had been longtime friends as Harlem, NY, natives who played on the same high school basketball team, HotNewHipHi mentions. The duo later collaborated in the Hip Hop scene, forming the group Children of the Corn in 1993, which lasted for four years.
Beyond the group, Cam’ron and Mase worked together once more on the single “Horse & Carriage,” featured on Cam’ron’s album “Confessions Of Fire” (1988), released by Sony. However, it was reported that Mase, who was signed to Bad Boy Records, requested $40,000 from Cam’ron to appear in the video, per The Fadar. Mase did not appear in the video, and a body double was used instead.
Shortly after, in 1999, Mase stepped away from the music industry and became a pastor the same year he released his album “Double Up” (1999).
“He went to church. I kinda didn’t understand it at the time because that’s my man all day, and I’m like, ‘Where’d church come from?’” Cam’ron’s explained, according to Vibe. “So I started bugging out on him because of that. So, to be honest with you, the whole sh*t was my fault, and just not understanding the kind of path he was on at the time.”
He added, “So I kinda was going at him on records and sh-t, and he was ignoring me and sh-t, then one day he made ‘The Oracle’ and kinda flushed me one day. I was like, ‘That was pretty tough.’”
Cam’ron and Mase’s relationship became further estranged. It was not until they both appeared separately on Gillie Da Kid and Wallo’s “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast that would spark a change of heart.
“I want to say thank you guys. Without you guys platform, we may be even still not speaking,” Cam’ron said in a joint appearance on the podcast.
Moreover, Cam’ron & Mase teamed up to launch a podcast around news and sports titled “It Is What It Is” in 2023. They secured a massive deal, reportedly valued at $30 million, Gillie Da Kid said on “Club Shay Shay.”
“It makes me feel extremely proud. Because you two brothers were friends since kids. If we was friends as kids when we didn’t have nothing…Honestly its all about talking. All we did was bring Mase on the show…Cam watched the interview. Now Cam comes on and expressed that ‘I really miss Mase as well.’ Next thing you know they call each other. Next thing you know, they got $30 million dollars,” Gillie Da Kid said.
