Kerby Jean-Raymond Announces His Departure As Global Creative Director Of Reebok

It looks like Kerby Jean-Raymond’s time at Reebok is soon coming to an end. In October 2020, AfroTech reported that the Pyer Moss founder became the sneaker company’s global creative director. “I am thrilled to be evolving my role at Reebok and joining the leadership team as the head of Creative Direction,” he shared back in 2020, according to Sneaker News. “I welcome this opportunity to help invigorate the brand with new ideas, while also focusing on instilling a sense of social purpose into our work.” Prior to being appointed to the title, him and his company were a major key in bringing forward their ideas to build in collaboration with Reebok. Since his role as the head of creative direction, the fashion designer’s innovation within the space worked to breathe new life into the longtime brand. Pyer Moss Couture Show Pays Homage To Black Inventors

Black excellence was on full display this weekend as Kerby Jean-R aymond, the first Black American designer to present at Paris Haute Couture Week , showcased the  Pyer Moss Fall 2021 Couture Collection at the estate of the late Madam C.J. Walker . AfroTech was invited to the Villa Lewaro to witness this historic event and it was nothing short of breathtaking. The ambiance was set from the minute guests arrived. With an all-Black live band decked out in all-white attire, it was as if you walked into a Harlem Renaissance party set in the digital age. However, the most jaw-dropping moment of all was the fashion. Embed from Getty Images   The Pyer Moss Fall Couture Show paid homage to Black inventors in the most ingenious way.  As the show began, models were met with gasps and awe as they walked the runway outfitted in garments resembling peanut butter (George Washington Carver), a traffic light (Garrett Morgan, 1923), a mop (Thomas W. Steward, 1863), a hot comb (Madam C.J. Walker), a...

Pyer Moss Announces Runway Return After Two-Year Hiatus From NYFW

After a two-year runway hiatus, Kerby Jean-Raymond’s Pyer Moss will be making its grand return to New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in September. According to a press release, Pyer Moss Collection 4 will debut on the second weekend of September, just before this year’s American-themed Met Gala. The upcoming show marks the brand’s first major runway appearance since its 2019’s Collection 3 — the third and final installment of the “American” series — which called attention to the erasure of Black narratives in popular culture. Jean-Raymond debuted that final installment in the Kings Theatre in his hometown Flatbush, Brooklyn to a 3,000-person crowd full of industry heads, celebrities, and fans. More details surrounding Pyer Moss’ Collection 4 will be announced in the coming months ahead of the runway show. Although the brand has been absent from NYFW’s limelight for the last two years, the same can hardly be said about Jean-Raymond. The last year has been a big one for him as he was...
