These Philadelphia natives are giving back to the community in a huge way. According to information shared exclusively with AfroTech, Philadelphia 76ers partner Michael Rubin has teamed up with Meek Mill and Kevin Hart to donate $15 million to 110 Philadelphia schools serving low-income students. The donation will assist thousands of students from underserved families during the 2022-2023 school year. The latest move is in addition to plans that are already in motion to continue providing those underserved in the Philadelphia area with the resources needed to thrive.

On Dec. 14, the rapper announced that he will be donating $500,000 worth of Christmas gifts to Philadelphia families in need. Rent prices have increased by two percent to four percent nationwide each year since 2011, according to CoreLogic. While gains in federal and state minimum wage rules have somewhat mitigated the bite for lower-wage earners in certain areas, it’s often not enough to compete with the rising cost of housing. Using data from the Joint Center of Housing Studies and the Economic Policy Institute, MagnifyMoney identified 16 cities where the median rent claims all of a minimum wage worker’s take-home pay, and then some.
