The popular pop the balloon dating show concept will be making its way to Netflix.

“Pop the Balloon or Find Love” is a hit dating show that started on YouTube. Hopeful romantics put their fate in the hands of potential matches. Contestants signal their interest, or lack thereof, by keeping their balloons intact, symbolizing a spark, or popping them to show disinterest.

The YouTube series was brought to life by self-employed multimedia producer and musician Bolia Matundu (BM) and his wife, Arlette Amuli, a beauty and lifestyle creator. During an interview with Essence GU, BM admits that versions of the concept started to pop up in the wake of COVID-19 in 2020.

“Around the pandemic, everyone was doing their own versions on YouTube, and I just wanted to create a version that I had a vision for,” BM told Essence GU. “So I wanted my wife to host…I wanted it to be more mature as well so trying to get people that are working class, people that have good jobs, and it just kicked off.”

He also added, “My wife has been absolutely amazing at presenting the show and all the production as well.”

The unscripted series has released 48 episodes and has amassed more than 100 million views from YouTube alone, a news release shared with AFROTECH™ confirms. The couple also hosts the “Catch Up” podcast, which provides viewers with updates on couples who matched on the show.

BM also shared that if a television deal were in alignment, they would definitely pursue the opportunity. Fast-forward to March 2025, and “Pop the Balloon or Find Love” will be coming to Netflix, with Sharp Entertainment leading the production.

BM and Amuli will be executive producers of the dating show, “Pop the Balloon LIVE,” alongside Matt Sharp, Dan Adler, and Bonnie Biggs from Sharp Entertainment. The news release mentions that fans can expect “higher stakes, fresh twists, and celebrity surprises.”

Actress Yvonne Orji will also serve as the show’s host.

“We’re thrilled to see Pop the Balloon take on a new life on Netflix. From day one, we’ve kept love and fun at the heart of the show, and watching it evolve and soar beyond our wildest dreams has been truly exciting,” said Batundu and Amuli in a news release. “As executive producers, we’re proud to support this next chapter and can’t wait for both new and longtime fans to experience it. Yvonne is engaging, witty, and authentic—and we are looking forward to her serving as the host for the reimagined version at Netflix!”

Orji also commented:

“It’s really great to see BM and Arlette’s vision expand to this version, due to their creativity, consistency, and desire for more connection. After playing the ‘unlucky in love’ Molly Carter for 5 seasons on Insecure, I know a thing or two about looking for love in a hopeless place. Hopefully, the singles on Pop The Balloon Live will have much more success. As host, I’m looking forward to striking that delicate balance of heart and humor for our daters and the Netflix audience at home.”
