On Thursday, Instagram users received a surprise update requiring them to tap and scroll horizontally to navigate their newsfeed.
Users quickly responded with disapproval on Twitter. Instagram’s Head of Product Adam Mosseri said on Twitter that the update was a test that went left.
“That was supposed to be a very small test that went broad by accident,” Mosseri said in a tweet. “Should be fixed now. If you’re still seeing it simply restart the app.”
Mosseri also responded to others who reacted to the update via Twitter. Since they had his attention some decided to ask what’s up with bringing chronological order back to the platform.
Sorry about that, this was supposed to be a very small test but we went broader than we anticipated. ?

Here’s how much some Instagram users hated the update in a short amount of time:

If Instagram can revert new update this quickly, why is it so hard to revert to chronological ordered posts? #instagramupdate pic.twitter.com/K4MbsqUtSl
